Stephen Whittier Hello, this is Stephen Whittier, and I would like to personally thank you for visiting our website. I am really happy you stopped by, because I am on a mission to help as many kids as possible in the South Coast area to experience the awesome benefits of our program.

I am truly passionate about martial arts and its power to help kids grow as individuals into strong, self-disciplined, and confident young leaders. As a father myself, I am also passionate about child safety, and making sure that kids have the personal resources to know how to deal with social challenges such as peer pressure and bullying – and to make good choices when confronted with such challenges.

To let you know a bit about my background, not only have I been involved with martial arts teaching for 20 years, I have also been a professional educator for even longer; this includes teaching at various levels, including four years as a lecturer at a prestigious university. Although I enjoyed my life in academics very much, I found that my ability to positively affect my students’ lives through the vehicle of martial arts was just as great – and in many cases, more powerful – than it was in the traditional classroom. So my passion evolved into a full-time occupation.

It turned out to be a great decision! After years of teaching for others and running my own part-time program in the Boston area, my wife and I moved down to the South Coast area and we opened Nexus as a full-time school in January of 2007. Since then, we have helped hundreds of area children and teens to be their best on and off the mat!

I have also been working with area schools to help develop their anti-bullying and culture-building programs, spoken with many classrooms about conflict avoidance, and ran after school programs on confidence building. We have helped kids with learning differences and low self-esteem to find the voice and inner strength they never thought they had, which has paid dividend in their lives and in their schoolwork.
